This Saturday, Justify will attempt to become the 13th horse in the 99 complete runnings of the races to win the Triple Crown. The last thoroughbred to win the Triple Crown was American Pharoah in 2015. Prior to that, the Triple Crown hadn’t been achieved since 1978 when Affirmed captured the title.
The more astonishing feat that could be accomplished on Saturday at the Belmont Stakes is Bob Baffert, Justify’s trainer, could become the first trainer to win the Triple Crown twice. The previous Triple Crown winner, Affirmed, was also trained by Baffert.
Bob Baffert is without a doubt a legendary racehorse trainer, winning the Kentucky Derby five times, the Preakness Stakes seven times, and twice winning the Belmont Stakes. In 2009, he was elected to the National Museum of Racing’s Hall of Fame.
